Earlier this spring Abbey Springs provided Dr. Chris Williamson, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a 30’ x 40’ area on the 15th fairway to create research plots. The trials were conducted throughout the summer testing the effectiveness of new products used for grub control. The testing is now complete so the accumulated data will be used to rate the effectiveness of each product. When we treated the greens, tees and fairways for grubs we did leave the plots untreated so it would not affect his research. In the photo you can see the area surrounding the research plots is untouched by raccoons. Some of the individual 3’ x 4’ plots were also untouched indicating good grub control, while other plots were torn up by raccoons searching for grubs indicating poor control.
